Hindi Day (हिंदी दिवस) is celebrated every year on 14 September. On September 14, 1949, the Constituent Assembly decided with one vote that Hindi will be the official language of India. To propose the importance of this important decision and to spread Hindi in every region, on the request of Rashtrabhasha Prachar Samiti, Wardha, on September 14, India is celebrated as Hindi-Day every year since 1953.

There is also a fact that 14 September 1949 was the 50th birthday of Rajendra Sinha, a pioneer of Hindi, who struggled for a long time to make Hindi the national language. After the attainment of independence, Vayuhar Rajendra Singh worked tirelessly with writers like Kaka Kalelkar, Maithilisharan Gupta, Hazariprasad Dwivedi, Seth Govindadas to establish Hindi as the national language.

Hindi is one of the 22 languages of India. Most Indians speak and understand Hindi. Hindi is spoken and understood in the states of North India, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh.

In the year 1918, Gandhiji had asked to make Hindi language a national language in Hindi Sahitya Sammelan. It was also called by Gandhiji as the language of the people.

The decision was taken on 14 September 1949 after much deliberation on the question of the national language of independent India, which is described in Article 343 (1) of the Chapter 17 of the Constitution of India.


Its main purpose is to make people aware about the fact that once a day in the year, Hindi language cannot develop until they use Hindi fully. On this one day, it is recommended to use Hindi in place of English in all government offices. Apart from this, the person who does good development work in Hindi throughout the year and uses Hindi well in his work is honored by the award.
